If you love the idea of waking up with beautifully defined lips but the thought of obvious or heavily tattooed lip colour puts you off, Lip Blush might be exactly what you're looking for.
It's one of my favourite treatments for enhancing what you already have rather than dramatically changing it.
And that's an important distinction.
Modern Lip Blush isn't about creating a lipstick effect that looks permanently “on”.
Done well, it can subtly improve the appearance of your lip colour, definition and symmetry while still allowing your natural lips to look like your lips.
So, if you've been considering Lip Blush in Reading but aren't quite sure what to expect, here's everything I'd want you to know before booking.
What Is Lip Blush?
Lip Blush is a form of semi-permanent makeup where pigment is carefully implanted into the lips to enhance their natural colour and definition.
It can be used to create a more even-looking lip tone, subtly define the border and give naturally pale lips a little more life.
But the goal doesn't have to be dramatic.
A lot of my clients come to me because they want something incredibly natural.
They still want to be able to wear different lipsticks.
They still want their lips to look like their own.
They just want to wake up with a little more colour and definition already there.
Who Is Lip Blush Good For?
You might love Lip Blush if you:
Feel your natural lips look pale or washed out
Regularly reach for lip liner to create more definition
Have areas of uneven-looking natural lip colour
Want to spend less time applying makeup every morning
Want your lips to look more defined without necessarily adding volume
Love the idea of a soft, natural enhancement
It's also a lovely option for women who don't necessarily want lip filler but would like their lips to appear a little more polished.
Lip Blush and lip filler are completely different treatments.
Filler changes volume and structure.
Lip Blush enhances colour and definition.
And sometimes colour is actually what's missing.
Will Lip Blush Look Natural?
This is probably one of the biggest concerns I hear.
And yes — Lip Blush can look incredibly natural.
The important thing to understand is that the lips immediately after treatment are not the finished result.
They'll initially look brighter and more intense.
As the lips heal, the colour softens considerably.
The result we're ultimately working towards is the healed colour, not what you see when you first sit up after your appointment.
That's why pigment choice is so important.
Does Lip Blush Make Your Lips Look Bigger?
Lip Blush doesn't add physical volume in the way dermal filler can.
However, creating more definition around the natural lip border and improving the appearance of the overall colour can sometimes make the lips look more defined and balanced.
The aim is to enhance your natural lip shape rather than create a completely different one.
If your main goal is additional volume, Lip Blush alone may not give you the result you're looking for.
That's exactly why it's important to choose a treatment based on your goal, rather than simply choosing the treatment you've seen most often online.
Does Lip Blush Hurt?
Everyone's tolerance is different, so I would never promise that you'll feel absolutely nothing.
However, keeping you comfortable throughout the treatment is important and the procedure is carried out with this in mind.
A lot of the anticipation comes from simply not knowing what to expect.
I'll talk you through the process before we begin so you know exactly what's happening.
What Does Lip Blush Healing Look Like?
This is something I really want clients to understand before having the treatment.
Lip Blush is a process.
You're not judging the final result the following morning.
Immediately afterwards, your lips may appear brighter and more intense than the colour you're ultimately aiming for. Some temporary swelling can also occur.
Over the following days, the lips begin to heal and the colour can change in appearance as that happens.
The pigment then gradually settles and softens.
This is why comparing someone's freshly treated Lip Blush to another person's fully healed result isn't particularly useful — they're at completely different stages.
Healed results are what matter.
How Long Does Lip Blush Last?
Lip Blush is semi-permanent, so it will gradually fade over time.
Exactly how long the result remains visible varies from person to person.
Your skin, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare and other individual factors can all influence pigment retention and fading.
Rather than thinking of it as something that will look exactly the same forever, think of it as a treatment designed to soften gradually over time.
Maintenance appointments can then be used when needed to refresh the result.
Can I Still Wear Lipstick After Lip Blush?
Absolutely.
Having Lip Blush doesn't mean committing to one lipstick colour for the rest of your life!
Once your lips have fully healed, you can still wear your usual lip products over the top.
That's actually one of the reasons I love natural Lip Blush.
Your lips can look softly enhanced when you're wearing no makeup at all, while still giving you the freedom to wear a completely different lip colour when you want to.
Lip Blush or Lip Filler — Which Do I Need?
This depends entirely on what you're trying to change.
If you're thinking:
“I like the shape of my lips, but I wish they had more colour and definition.”
Lip Blush may be worth exploring.
If you're thinking:
“I'd like more volume or structural enhancement.”
That's a different conversation.
And sometimes someone doesn't need either.
Part of my job isn't simply performing treatments — it's helping you work out which treatment actually makes sense for what you're trying to achieve.
What Should I Look For When Choosing a Lip Blush Artist?
Don't only look at freshly treated photographs.
Look for healed results too.
I'd also pay attention to whether an artist's work all looks identical.
Different faces, skin tones, lip colours and personal preferences should produce different results.
Your consultation should feel like a conversation rather than being told what you're going to have.
Ask questions.
Look through previous work.
And make sure you feel completely comfortable with the person carrying out your treatment.
Semi-permanent makeup should never feel rushed.
Natural Lip Blush in Reading, Berkshire
I offer Lip Blush from my studio in Shinfield, Reading, Berkshire, with a focus on natural-looking results that enhance rather than overpower your features.
After more than 15 years working within makeup and beauty, my approach has become increasingly simple:
I don't want to make everybody look the same.
I want to understand what you want to see when you look in the mirror.
For one client that might mean barely-there definition.
For another it could be restoring some warmth to naturally pale lips.
For someone else it might be a beautiful soft coral or rosy tone.
The treatment changes.
The goal doesn't:
You should still feel like yourself.
Just a little more confident when you wake up in the morning.
